The Facts about Breast Reduction – From Tijuana Surgeon Francisco Bucio, M.D.
Breast reduction surgery is a great option for women who have excessively large, heavy breasts that cause severe back and neck pain, headaches, and overall discomfort. Oversized breasts also cause many women to feel self-conscious and embarrassed, making public and social life sometimes unbearable. The Breast Reduction Procedure
The most common method of breast reduction, and the one used at Bucio Surgicenter in Tijuana, involves three incisions: one around the areola (the dark circle of skin surrounding the nipple), another that runs vertically from the areola to underneath the breast, and a third that follows the natural curve of the breast crease. Dr. Bucio then removes the excess breast tissue, fat, and skin and shifts the nipple to a higher position.
The areola, which is usually stretched in large breasts, can be reduced in size. Lastly in the breast reduction procedure, the remaining skin is tightened around the newly shaped and sized breast.
During breast reduction surgery, the patient is under a local anesthesia, which is sometimes combined with a sedative for drowsiness. Though the patient is awake, she will be relaxed and insensitive to pain.
Breast Reduction Recovery
Temporary side effects of breast reduction include swelling, bruising, and pain, but these usually diminish as the breasts heal, which can take between four and six weeks. During that time, heavy lifting, straining, and bending should be avoided, as they will cause excess swelling or bleeding. Most patients are able to return to work after one or two weeks.
